Winning the Mobile Platform Race
I’m not much of a racing fan, so forgive me if the analogy breaks down rather quickly, but it struck me today that Apple’s disciplined approach to building its mobile platform looks somewhat like a well managed racing team. While competitors have been taking risks and cutting corners in an attempt…
Such a good exposition!

We’ve learned that a visit to the Genius Bar can fix more than just computers. It can also restore a customer’s relationship with Apple.

There is something salutary in that proud defiance. And though the debate she sparked about Asian-American life has been of questionable value, we will need more people with the same kind of defiance, willing to push themselves into the spotlight and to make some noise, to beat people up, to seduce women, to make mistakes, to become entrepreneurs, to stop doggedly pursuing official paper emblems attesting to their worthiness, to stop thinking those scraps of paper will secure anyone’s happiness, and to dare to be interesting.
Today is James Bond day. I don’t know why. I just decided.
Of all the James Bonds I think the one portrayed by Daniel Craig is the best.
This 007 is simpler, raw and more violent. It was striped down to its (his) essentials. While he still maintain the classic Bond look, the overall feeling is that he is not attached to anything and that he does not think possessions are all that important.
My favorite Bond to date. Sean Connery comes a close second.

He puts one in mind of the great hero of epic tragedy, who is caught in a maelstrom of forces beyond his control, that destroy him in the end by working, ironically, upon a single tragic flaw in his character. Alone and lost, unbowed and defiant, he still cuts an impressive figure, still able to tell the world, ‘I am me.’
The GE 2011 Political Demise of Lee Kuan Yew: A Supreme Irony
Not a flattering title, but otherwise true words about such a great man. In a way, I can understand LKY. The only thing I suppose is that when your time is up, you have to move on.
